Art classes
In art classes, students express themselves in individual and group projects. This class is designed to give students experience and background in studio art and art history. Every student, from kindergarten through eight grades, has an art class for forty five minutes each week. Art class explores a variety of mediums, including felt, flannel, buttons, paper, tissue, plastic, glass, pastels and clay. Through the year, the students glue, cut, color, paint, create, listen, trace, craft, draw, and sculpt. This is a hands-on class where the students sculpt, sketch, design, paint and enjoy art.
Music classes
Music is one of the arts – those things that make life fuller and more worthwhile. Scientists have concrete evidence that music enhances the brain, sharpening hearing for all sounds including speech. Patterns in music can help a child learn math and reading. In music classes the students learn to move to music, read rhythms, sing and read notes, learn about composers and listen critically to their music. They learn about instruments and their place in the orchestra and band. Students gain confidence by performing alone and cooperation by performing with others. Music not only helps children learn academic subjects, it adds an important dimension to our entire lives. Every student Kindergarten through eight grade has music one forty five minute a week.
The seventh and eight grades present a musical play each year in spring for classmates and parents. Students are involved in all aspects of a theatre including acting, props, lighting, costuming, and stage design. |
